Grammy names Wizkid Afrobeat giant

The Recording Academy also known as the Grammy has described singer Wikzid as ‘Afrobeat giant’.

The singer was described with the title in a video titled “How Wizkid Rehsaped Afrobeats with ‘Made in Lagos'” uploaded on their Youtube channel on Thursday.

The video which celebrated Wizkid’s Made in Lagos album described him as the Afrobeat giant whose album ‘catapulted’ him further into the pop music conversation while elevating his hometown in Nigeria.

The post read: “In this episode of For The Record, Grammy.com celebrates Wizkid’s 2020 ‘Made in Lagos’ album which catapults the Afrobeat giant further into the pop music conversation while elevating his hometown in Nigeria. Featuring guests from H.E.R (“Smile”) to Damian Marley (“Blessed”) to Burna Boy (Ginger”), the album spans countries and styles with ease and a remix if ‘Essence’ with Justin Beiber became a global phenomenon in the summer of 2021.

“Wizkid is nominated in two categories at the 2022 GRAMMS- Best Global Music Performance (“Essence”) and Best Global Music Album (“Made in Lagos: Deluxe Edition”).
