Fubara backs Tinubu re-election, calls for unity in South

Siminalayi Fubara Rivers State Governor

Governor of Siminalayi Fubara has declared support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

Fubara spoke on Thursday while declaring open the meeting of the Southern Traditional Rulers Council in Port Harcourt.

He said Nigeria is in “capable hands” under Tinubu and that the administration is making progress in reviving the economy and delivering critical infrastructure, including coastal road projects, despite prevailing challenges.

The governor said continuity in leadership is necessary, adding that “it is not ideal to change the goalpost in the middle of the game”.

Fubara urged stakeholders across the region to work collectively toward shared aspirations, insisting that the South must remain united to achieve sustainable development.

He added that the gathering of monarchs underscored the peaceful disposition of Rivers State and its readiness to host high profile national engagements.

The meeting was attended by traditional rulers from the South South, South East and South West, including the co-chairman of the council, Cletus Illomuanya, and Rashidi Ladoja.

The endorsement comes at a time of evolving political dynamics in Rivers State. Fubara, who was elected in 2023, later joined the All Progressives Congress in December 2025 after a prolonged political crisis in the state.

The crisis had earlier led to a breakdown in governance in the state in 2025, prompting federal intervention and a temporary restructuring of the state leadership before a return to constitutional order later in the year.
