Woman, husband, six-month-old baby, 15 others die as five-storey building collapses in Lagos

At least 18 persons have died after a five storey building collapsed at Lekki phase one in Lagos on Tuesday morning.

The dead were mostly workers at the uncompleted building.

Among the dead was a woman, her six-month-old baby and her husband.

The incident occurred at Chisco Bus Stop, opposite Oando Gas Station at about 4:10am.

Spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA), South-west zone, Ibrahim Farinloye, gave an initial casualty figure of four.

“We received an alert around 4:20am about the building collapse and immediately we mobilised resources and personnel to move in there.

“As at now, we have recovered four persons dead, six rescued alive.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Police and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) took part in the rescue operation.
