Former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Ibrahim Galadima has died at the age of 74.
Kano Pillars, a club he helped establish, announced his death in a statement on Saturday.
The club said he died after an illness.
According to the statement, his janazah prayer will be held on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at Masallacin Waje in Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State.
Former NFF general secretary Sani Toro also confirmed the development. “I regret to announce the death of our respected Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima today in Kano. May Allah grant him Aljanna Firdausi,” he said.
President of the NFF Ibrahim Gusau said the news was a loss to the football community.
“Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima was a mentor to many of us in sports administration. We will miss his advice and guidance,” he said.
Galadima served as president of the NFF from 2002 to 2006. He was replaced by Sani Lulu after the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Born on June 14, 1951, in Kano, he played a role in the development of football administration in Nigeria.
He was among those involved in the establishment of Kano Pillars in 1991.
He served as chairman of the Kano State Football Association from 1977 to 1979 and later as executive chairman of the Kano State Sports Council from 1981 to 1983.
In 1984, he was appointed to the caretaker committee of the National Sports Commission.
He also served as first vice-president of the Nigerian Olympic Committee between 1985 and 1987.
