Former emir Sanusi visits north first time after deposition

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi Lamido Sanusi

Former Emir of Kano Lamido Sanusi has paid the northern region a first visit since he was deposed on March 9 by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Sanusi was received in Kaduna State on Sunday by a crowd of supporters who joined his motorcade.

Some of them displayed 2023 presidential campaign posters with his photograph on their vehicles.

Sanusi will meet Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai his longtime friend.

The ex-emir was believed to have been removed from power following his lack of support for the second term bid of Ganduje.

The Kano governor first created four new emirates with first-class emirs and gave them equal rights as the emir of the ancient city of Kano before removing Sanusi.

Sanusi was sent to Nasarawa State following his deposition. El-Rufai on March 13 paid him a visit and took him out of the town after a judge ordered his release from detention.

Sanusi left for Lagos that day and had not visited the north until now.
