While many believe that tertiary education is a must, some Nigerian celebrities are proof that you can be somebody even without a university degree.

Here are eight successful Nigerian celebrities without a university certificate.

  1. 2face

2face Idibia..The legendary 2face Idibia has various awards on his shelf and several hit singles to his name. Despite his numerous achievements, the 40-year-old is without a university degree. Before his career blossomed, the father of seven enrolled at the Institute of Management & Technology, Enugu (IMT), where he did his preliminary National Diploma course in Business Administration and Management. Without a university degree, 2face has managed to become one of the most certified pop artistes in Africa.

  1. Timaya

TimayaEgberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa, Timaya, has always been very open about not having a university degree. The dancehall singer once revealed that although his parents wanted him in school, all he wanted to do was pursue his musical career. Thankfully, music paid off and Timaya can boast of having a fat account and a blooming career.

WIZKIDThe educational life of pop artiste, Wizkid, played out in the media. The’ Ojuelegba’ singer dropped out of Lead City University in his second year. Wizkid has gone on to become a highly successful young artiste, winning awards and gaining international recognition.

Genevieve NnajiNollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji, is one of the most successful actresses in Africa. Her good command of English makes it hard for people to believe the star actress does not have a university degree.

9iceSinger, 9ice, also makes the list. After attending CMS Grammar School, Bariga in Lagos for his secondary school education, the ‘Gongo Aso’ singer proceeded to the Lagos State University to study Law but dropped out after a while to concentrate on music.

DbanjD’banj is another artiste that forfeited education for music. The Koko Master, as he is famously called halted, his plans to study Mechanical Engineering in London after he met with Don Jazzy who wanted to be a songwriter and producer. Years after, D’banj has several hit singles and multiple awards to his credits.

Mercy JohnsonPopular actress, Mercy Johnson, once revealed that the only reason she got into acting was because she failed her university entrance examination. Her bad luck at the entrance examination turned into good luck as she is now one of the highest paid actresses in the Nigeria movie industry.

  1. Don Jazzy

DON JAZZYMichael Collins Ajere, aka Don Jazzy, is proof that a university degree is not the only ladder to success. The leader of the Supreme Mavin Dynasty dropped out of Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, in his first year.  The 34-year-old has since won various awards and signed on A-list artistes to his record label.
