Court stands down Fayose’s trial for one hour

Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose

A Federal High Court in Lagos has stood down for one hour, the fraud trial of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.

Mr Fayose is facing charges of alleged N6.9 billion fraud.

The judge handling the trial, Mojisola Olatoregun, rose shortly after sitting began, saying that she had to attend an official function.

She, however, said she would be back in an hour to continue the trial.

Fayose was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on October 22, 2018, alongside a company Spotless Investment Ltd.

The fifth prosecution witness, a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, was billed for cross examination on Monday.

Mr Obanikoro had testified on January 21 against Fayose.

He said he received $5 million and some amounts of naira from Fayose out of the impress account of a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, in June 2014.
