Buhari failed to lobby or send replacement for Magu – Saraki

Bukola Saraki

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Monday, said that President Muhammadu Buhari had the right to lobby or send replacement for Ibrahim Magu as chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Saraki said this at the orientation programme organised by the National Assembly management for newly elected federal lawmakers.

Mr Magu has been in acting capacity as EFCC chairman for nearly three years.

Saraki said the delay falls on the presidency’s refusal to either lobby senate leaders to have Magu voted in as substantive chairman or send in a fresh nominee.

He also said the Senate had the right to either reject or confirm a nominee from the executive and so the public should not have a wrong impression of the Senate.

The upper chamber rejected Magu three times, saying that an unfavourable memo against him by the Department of State Services (DSS) was the reason for its decision.
