Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has said he can never betray the family of late former president Muhammadu Buhari, citing his ties to the former leader.
Governor Radda spoke when he received a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from Daura, Mai’adua and Sandamu federal constituencies at the Government House.
The delegation introduced Yusuf Buhari as an aspirant for the House of Representatives.
The governor said he had benefited from Buhari since 2015 and could not turn against his family.
“I can never betray Buhari’s family. I have been a beneficiary of his good reputation since the days of the CPC to date. Buhari is late now. May his soul rest in peace. Therefore, I wish Yusuf well and all the best in your political pursuit,” he said.
Radda added that the APC would not stop others from contesting because Yusuf is in the race. He said Buhari himself contested with others before winning elections.
He advised Yusuf to build his own name in politics.
Yusuf Buhari has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Daura, Sandamu and Mai’adua federal constituency in 2027 under the APC.
He made the declaration during the visit to the governor.
He thanked stakeholders for their support and said he would meet their expectations.
“I will not let you down. The support I have received is encouraging, and I will justify your confidence,” he said.
The delegation was led by the district head of Dumurkul Musa Haro, who said Yusuf’s aspiration reflects the desire of the people for representation. He also sought the governor’s support.
Other speakers at the meeting included Abdullahi Aliyu, a member of the House of Representatives, who urged party members to support aspirants.
Fatihu Muhammad of the National Agricultural Seeds Council said Yusuf’s decision was driven by a plan to serve the people.
Minister of arts, culture and creative economy Hannatu Musawa also supported youth participation in governance and called for engagement with constituents.
Radda said his administration remains committed to internal democracy and urged party members to maintain unity ahead of the 2027 general election.
