Kwara files 20-count charge against Saraki, Ahmed over Offa robbery

Bukola Saraki

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed are to be arraigned on June 4, over a 20-count charge filed by the Kwara State Government in connection with the 2018 Offa robbery.

The case will be heard before Justice Haleemah Salman of the Kwara State High Court.

Also listed as defendants are Yusuf Abdulwahab and Alabi Olalekan.

The charge, dated April 9, was filed by the Attorney-General of Kwara State Ibrahim Sulyman.

The state government accused the defendants of conspiracy, culpable homicide and other offences linked to the April 2018 robbery in Offa.

The filing followed a decision by the Court of Appeal, which upheld the conviction of the main suspects in the case, including Ayo Akinnibosun.

According to the prosecution, Akinnibosun made statements during the trial linking the attack to a political network.

The state government alleged that the defendants supported and armed individuals involved in the robbery.

It also said some suspects were seen with Mr Saraki during a visit to Offa after the incident.

The prosecution further claimed that vehicles and other items linked to the case were recovered from government facilities in Kwara State in 2018 and were used as evidence in court.

Akinnibosun was said to have claimed that he received rifles and a vehicle from Abdulwahab, as well as money.

Saraki has denied the allegations and said the case is aimed at his reputation and political career.

Ahmed has also denied any involvement and said the claims are not true.
