Actress Toyin Abraham has defended her colleague Uche Montana after being drawn into an online debate over the performance of latter’s film Monica 2 on YouTube.

The discussion followed reports that the light skinned actress’s new movie, Monica 2, had hit 4.3 million views on YouTube within 24 hours of its release.

Monica had generated approximately 4,403,874 views within its first 15 hours after debuting on Saturday, at 6:00 p.m.

The numbers sparked mixed reactions, with some social media users questioning how quickly the film gained such traction.

A critic on X compared the figures to Toyin’s recent film featuring BBNaija season 10 winner Imisi, claiming it took longer to reach similar milestones.

The critic said, “Toyin Abraham, who has a huge fanbase, joined with Imisi fans in one week to hit 3M, and Uche Montana movie Monica part 2 is hitting 5M+ views barely 24hrs, I doubt it’s organic views”.

Responding, Toyin distanced herself from the comparison and urged the critic to allow Montana enjoy her success.

“Pls, leave me out of this and let her enjoy her moment and time. Won sepe fun yi ni, abi kilode gan”.

Uche began her acting career in 2015 with a debut in Poison Ivy and gained wider recognition on the Africa Magic series Hush (2016–2017). Her role on the show earned her the MAYA Awards Africa for Best Supporting Actress.

The first Monica film, released on YouTube in March 2026, built strong momentum online, crossing 13 million views within two weeks of its debut and continuing to grow. It has now recorded over 18 million views on the platform.

Monica 2 continues the story introduced in the original film, which gained popularity for its emotional and family centred narrative. The sequel expands on those themes, focusing on responsibility, loyalty and personal sacrifice.
