Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu has jokingly invited women interested in marrying her son Nwachukwu to “register” their interest as she celebrated his birthday.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Minister Odumegwu-Ojukwu shared recent photos of them together as well as a throwback picture showing Nwachukwu in his school uniform.
In her message, she described him as her “June gift” and marked the start of her favourite month with a light-hearted appeal to women interested in marrying her son.
“Happy Birthday, Nwachukwu Jordan Odumegwu-Ojukwu, my awesome June gift, born at beginning of my favorite month,” she wrote.
The minister joked that she was opening a register for “interested, hopeful and potential brides” and would waive the dowry for early applicants after consultations with family members.
She also joked about her reputation as a protective mother-in-law before wishing her son another year of God’s guidance and protection.
“May God continue to guide and protect you. Wish you were here!” she added.
Nwachukwu is one of the three children Odumegwu-Ojukwu had with her late husband, Chukwuemeka Ojukwu.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Ojukwu began their relationship in 1989 and got married on November 12, 1994, in Abuja. Their marriage lasted until Ojukwu’s death in 2011 at the age of 78 after a brief illness in the United Kingdom.
Their other children are Chineme and Afamefuna.
Before her appointment as minister, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu served in various diplomatic roles, including as Nigeria’s ambassador to Ghana, Spain and Mexico.
