Former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, has sent his wishes to the families of those trapped in the building that collapsed on Lagos Island.

The three-storey building located at Itafaji Street, near Adeniji Adele, collapsed at about 10:20am on Wednesday.

Atiku, in a tweet on Wednesday, said all resources should be utilised into rescuing and treating the victims.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of pupils caught up in the collapse of the three-storey building at Ita Faji, Lagos Island. No resource should be spared in rescuing the trapped and treating the injured,” Atiku wrote.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had also sent his wishes to the families of the trapped victims.

About 25 persons have been rescued so far, according to the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has taken frontline role in the rescue operations.

The police and other security operatives are also at the scene of the collapsed building.

The building housed shops for sale of consumables and a primary school on its last floor.
