The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that its Resident Electoral Commissioner in Adamawa State, Kashim Gaidam, was never offered $1million bribe and a house in Dubai by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
A report had circulated on social media on Monday alleging the bribe. The report read in part – “Breaking News: I rejected Atiku’s $1m bribe plus a house in Dubai- Adamawa REC.”
However, INEC in a statement on Facebook disowned the report, saying: “FAKE NEWS ALERT: The Adamawa INEC REC completely disassociates himself from the allegation that he had an offer of $1m and a house in Dubai as no offer whatsoever was ever made to him by anyone.”
The INEC REC threatened to sue the source of the report.
“I’ve never had any contact with Atiku all my life. I can state without fear of contradiction that Atiku probably does not know how I look, because I’ve never met him personally, all my life. I was shocked to read what was credited to me by some unscrupulous persons,” Gaidam said.
