I have evidence ADC primary was rigged – Babachir Lawal

Babachir Lawal

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal has claimed that he has evidence that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary was rigged.

Mr Lawal made the claim on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he said he was present during the exercise as National Vice Chairman (North-East).

He said the conduct and outcome of the primary did not reflect a fair process, adding that results were already being declared while the exercise was ongoing.

“Don’t forget I was the National Vice Chairman (North-East). I was in the field during the exercise, so I have evidence,” he said.

“Whatever Atiku’s people are saying is not true. I knew the primary was rigged at the point it was being done and the results being declared.”

Lawal did not provide details of the evidence he referred to.

He also denied claims that he collected money from former ADC presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

According to him, the allegation was false and unsupported by evidence.

“If I want money to do politics, I’d phone Bola Tinubu here, and I am sure before I get home, they would give me the money,” he said.

Babachir Lawal said his support for Hayatu-Deen was based on competence and not financial inducement.

The ADC presidential primary produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s candidate after a contested process that has continued to generate internal disputes.
