Former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju on Tuesday said he would forever be grateful to wife Bimpe for lighting up his life.

The Ibadan-born ex-footballer stated this via Facebook in celebration of his wife’s birthday.

“You light up my life and I’m forever grateful for having you,” he wrote, “Happy birthday to my beautiful life partner. Muchas gracias, for all you do.”

Adepoju was christened ‘headmaster’ for his expertise in handling the ball with his head.

In a 2017 interview with PUNCH, the 53-year-old said he met his wife through a friend and that he never planned to marry a foreigner.

“I am a ‘homeboy.’ Moreover, I met her before I travelled to Spain and we already had a great relationship. While I was away in Spain, I missed her dearly. I knew I had somebody waiting for me at home (Nigeria), and I didn’t see any reason why I should be with a foreign lady; I was comfortable with her,” he said.

On his 53rd birthday on December 22, 2023, Bimpe shared on Facebook a message from her and their children to Adepoju.

The message read, “Dear Papi, The Asoju Amuludun of the Source! On this special day, we gather together with hearts full of love and gratitude to wish you the happiest of birthdays. May this year be filled with blessings, joy, and countless beautiful moments.

“Tinu, Lade, Abby and Lolita, and I are incredibly thankful for your presence in our lives. Your strength, love, and unwavering support guide us each day. As a husband and father, your kindness, wisdom, and warmth shine through, making our lives richer and more meaningful.”
