A new youth focused theatre and cultural event, the Youth Edutainment Theatre Festival (YET Festival), will hold on May 25 at Wesley Primary School Complex in Lagos.
In a statement shared on Sunday by festival initiator Eki Eboigbe, the organisers said the festival was created to bridge gaps in youth engagement through art, culture and education.
According to the statement, the maiden edition is themed “Youth impact: Educate, Elevate & Entertain.”
The event will feature workshops, a summit and stage performances aimed at empowering young people and promoting creativity.
Organisers said the workshop segment would provide practical training in barbing, hair braiding, shoe making, coaster making, fascinator making, tie and dye, bag making, beading and painting.
The training is expected to benefit special children at Wesley School for the Hearing Impaired as well as underserved youths in the community.
“The program will create a cultural platform for dialogue, creativity, networking and entrepreneurship,” the statement said.
It added that selected youths at the summit would speak on the role of education, innovation and technology in sustainable development, while theatre performances would combine entertainment with educational themes.
“The YET Festival will ignite theatre for education platform to engage young people in the community, using art and culture to express, share and gain new knowledge, while harnessing their innate creativity, towards contributing positively to the progress and advancement of their immediate environment and humanity in general,” the statement added.
The festival is scheduled to run from 9am to 4pm in commemoration of International Children’s Day 2026.
Veteran actress Ibidun Allison will be honoured as the festival’s Platinum Icon, while actress Gloria Young will receive the Festival Gold Icon award for their contributions to the arts and humanitarian service.
The event is organised by Entertainment Bus Stop Limited in collaboration with the National Council for Arts and Culture, Lagos, and supported by FirstBank Nigeria.
