Veteran entertainer Charly Boy has spoken again about his confrontation with former Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha during the burial of his father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.

The incident happened in 2014 and drew public attention after Charly Boy reportedly interrupted Okorocha while he was addressing guests at the funeral ceremony.

Speaking in an interview, the entertainer said he still stands by his actions, claiming the former governor was trying to turn the burial into a political event.

“Mmhmm. Is that a crime? I for don slap am. He wanted to use my father’s burial as a campaign for politics. And you don’t do that. Not when I’m around.”

According to Charly Boy, he believed the atmosphere was not appropriate for political speeches and decided to intervene while Okorocha was speaking.

He added, “And he knew he was in my territory. Even with all his bodyguards, na my territory him dey.”

Justice Oputa, popularly known as the “Socrates of the Supreme Court,” was a respected jurist who served on the Supreme Court of Nigeria and later chaired the Human Rights Violations Investigation Commission set up in 1999.

Born Charles Oputa, Charly Boy is one of Justice Oputa’s children and has often spoken publicly about his father’s influence on his life and career.

The clash between Charly Boy and Okorocha dates back to June 2014 during the burial of Justice Oputa at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oguta, Imo State. Reports at the time said the confrontation started after Bishop Matthew Kukah allowed Okorocha to address guests during the funeral service.

The incident reportedly caused tension inside the church, with some guests and dignitaries leaving the venue alongside Okorocha and members of his entourage.

Okorocha later described the incident as unfortunate through his spokesman, while Charly Boy denied reports that he forcefully seized the microphone from the former governor and said there was no personal feud between them.
