Afrobeats star Asake has spoken about his recent transformation, which sparked reactions from fans.
The 30-year-old debuted a new look last month, featuring face tattoos and a much shorter hairstyle, a sharp contrast from his signature dreadlocks.
His appearance left many wondering about the inspiration behind the change.
Speaking on the red carpet at the 2025 Grammy Awards, Asake said his transformation was driven by comfort and self-expression.
“This is how I feel now. I love to be comfortable in my look and do things that feel right for me,” he said.
“It’s not about anybody. I might wake up tomorrow, and you won’t see any tattoos on my face.”
Asake also expressed gratitude for his first Grammy nomination in the Best African Music Performance category for ‘MMS,’ his collaboration with Wizkid.
“I feel blessed. Many people want this, but I was chosen. I’m honoured,” he said.
However, he lost the award to Tems, who won with ‘Love Me JeJe,’ beating nominees including Yemi Alade (Tomorrow), Burna Boy (Higher), and Chris Brown’s ‘Sensational’ featuring Davido and Lojay.
