Union Newspapers seek El-Rufai’s recall to witness stand in alleged N90bn assets case

Nasir El-Rufai

A Kaduna State High Court has adjourned till May 2, for motion on notice seeking the recall of Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, for further cross-examination in the suit he instituted against the Union Newspapers.

Defence counsel, H. A. Abuul, made an oral application for adjournment on Wednesday which was granted.

El-Rufai’s asset declaration documents are also expected to be presented to the court on May 2.

El-Rufai had in 2017 opened and closed his case challenging the report by the newspaper in which it said he had declared N90 billion in his assets declaration form to the Code of Conduct Bureau.

CCB chairman, whose arrest was ordered by the court for failing to honour its summons, was represented by the bureau’s counsel, Temitope Adeyemi.

Adeyemi requested for another date to enable the bureau produce the governor’s asset declaration documents.

Adeyemi also said that the CCB chairman had only assumed duty in November 2018, and had no prior knowledge of the subpoena, as such requested for new date to produce the documents.

The judge, Mairo Mohammed, said the court would consider the motion on the next adjourned date.
