PDP drags INEC to court for insisting on card readers

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the use of card readers for the general elections.

PDP wants the court to restrict INEC from postponing elections in any polling unit where card reader malfunctions.

INEC had said elections in units where card reader malfunctions will be suspended till it is replaced.

The commission also said that elections would be postponed till the next day if a replacement is not available by 2pm.

In the suit dated February 11 obtained by TheCable, the party argued that INEC’s insistence that a voter’s identity must be confirmed by the card reader is inconsistent with provisions of the electoral act.
