A contestant known as Fads has been eliminated from MasterChef Nigeria following a judges’ challenge that tested contestants’ ability to reinterpret personal dishes.
In the latest episode, Fads and Loye were named the bottom two after their dishes fell below the standard set by other contestants. The judges eventually asked Fads to leave the competition. Reflecting on her effort, Chef Stone said, “I feel you had enough time to create something a bit more than this.”
The episode followed a previous challenge where contestants cooked meals inspired by people who influenced their lives. This time, the focus shifted to the judges, as Chef Stone and Chef Eros shared personal stories behind their signature dishes before asking contestants to recreate them within 90 minutes.
The dishes were randomly assigned. Some contestants worked on Chef Stone’s Pan African Beef Wellington, while others reinterpreted Chef Eros’ Ewa Hummus, Agoyin Chutney and Agege Flatbread.
Fads, who took on Chef Stone’s brief, presented beef and mushroom skewers with pistachio crepe. However, the judges noted that the sauces meant to complete the dish were missing, leaving it unfinished. Loye, who recreated Chef Eros’ dish, described his food as “a flavour bomb in your mouth,” but the judges said it did not meet expectations.
At the top of the challenge, David and Demilade delivered standout dishes. Demilade was named winner and awarded a culinary trip to South Africa, supported by South African Tourism. Her apple, cranberry and chinchin crumble dessert drew praise from the judges, who described it as restaurant worthy.
David also impressed for a second consecutive week after previously earning Dish of the Week. “I won last week, but I won’t be happy if I don’t win today,” he said.
The competition now continues with seven contestants remaining, ahead of a new challenge next week.
Produced by Primedia Group, MasterChef Nigeria is part of the global MasterChef franchise created by Franc Roddam. The cooking competition brings together amateur chefs who compete in a series of culinary tasks judged by professional chefs, with eliminations held weekly until a winner emerges.
The Nigerian edition features local ingredients and culinary traditions while maintaining the core format of the international series. It airs on Africa Magic Showcase and Africa Magic Family, with weekly episodes showcasing challenges that test creativity, technique and presentation.
