Tinubu will make a good president for Nigeria – Babachir Lawal

A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has said that the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, would make a good leader for Nigeria.

Lawal said this in Yola, Adamawa State, in an interview with journalists.

His comments come amid discussions over the successor of President Muhammadu Buhari at the end of his tenure in 2023.

Buhari had in October 2017 sacked Lawal following a report of investigations by a panel headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo into allegations of fraud levelled against him.

Lawal is now facing a 10-count charge bordering on conspiracy and fraud before the FCT High Court in Maitama, Abuja.

The former SGF, however, told journalists that he was in support of power rotation to the South but dismissed chances of an Igbo person getting the nod of any of the major political parties.

“By 2023 when Buhari’s tenure will be over, he’ll go back to Daura to face his cows like I am doing. But you see, every leader must leave behind a legacy. I will like to see that he leaves behind a legacy of achievement,” he said.

“Bola Tinubu is my friend of many years. Buhari is my big boss. Bola Tinubu without prejudice that he’s my friend, will make a good president. Other issues notwithstanding, he (Tinubu) will make a good modern president because the presidency these days is scientific. Nigerians, by convention, seem to have agreed that there should be rotation of the presidency.”
