Former president of the Ijaw Youth Council Asari Dokubo has revealed that President-elect Bola Tinubu bought him his first car when he came out of prison and also paid his children’s school fees.

Dokubo stated this in a video seen on Sunday where he explained the reason for supporting Tinubu.

He said, “I became close to Tinubu in 1992 and throughout National Democratic Coalition period till he became governor of Lagos State.

“He paid my children’s school fees while in detention and also gave a house to my wife. He also sponsored my medical trip abroad after I was released from prison and bought me my first car.”

Dokubo added, “This is a man that I have been close to. And because of (former President) Goodluck (Jonathan) we parted ways on the 23rd of December 2010. We were not that close but he was not my enemy.

“When he came out to contest election it was my duty to pay him back. This was the only time I could pay back a friend who was with me in my hours of travail.”

Dokubo, who founded the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, said his relationship with Tinubu was not political, adding that the former Lagos State governor acknowledged him when he came to campaign in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He also alleged that Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike worked with him to ensure Tinubu won in the state.

“Wike, who was my enemy, stood with me for my friend (Tinubu),” he said.

Dokubo added that Tinubu sponsored him and six persons to Hajj.
