Foundation to unveil book on late lawyer Tunji Braithwaite in Abuja

Tunji Braithwaite Foundation (TBF) has concluded plans for the 10th memorial anniversary of lawyer and politician Tunji Braithwaite, scheduled for Saturday at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

The theme of the event is “Politics with Conscience: Leadership, Responsibility, and the Nigerian Social Contract.”

A major highlight of the programme will be the unveiling of a commemorative book on the late activist and politician, written by journalist and public relations consultant Muyiwa Akintunde.

According to the foundation, the publication focuses on Braithwaite’s work in social justice, human rights and legal advocacy.

Braithwaite died on March 28, 2016, at the age of 82.

The book notes that he believed rights and privileges should not be limited to the wealthy but should also be available to ordinary citizens. Akintunde said the work captures Braithwaite’s commitment to causes he believed in and his record of defending oppressed people through the legal profession, adding that he remained committed to justice and truth throughout his life.

The book will be reviewed by Prof. Anthony Kila, director of the Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies, who is known for commentary on politics, economy, governance and constitutional issues.

President Bola Tinubu is expected as special guest of honour, while former Osun State governor Bisi Akande will chair the event.

Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is listed as chief host, while Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka is expected as guest of honour.

Tunji Braithwaite was known for his legal practice, political activism and advocacy on governance issues in Nigeria.
