Family of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu says it has not received any contact or ransom demand from the gunmen who abducted his younger sister, Olaide John-Paul and her twin sons in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Femi Awogboro, a media aide to ex-Minister Adelabu, disclosed this in an interview on Thursday, saying the family remained worried as no communication had been received from the abductors since the incident.
“The family has not heard anything from the abductors since yesterday. No contact, no demand has been made so far,” Mr Awogboro said.
He added that security agencies were working to locate the victims and secure their release.
According to him, the family remains hopeful that the victims will return safely.
Mrs John-Paul, 43 and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were abducted on Wednesday morning in the Elewura area of Challenge, Ibadan, while she was taking the children to school.
Awogboro said security agencies began investigations immediately after the incident was reported and have continued efforts to rescue the victims.
He also appealed to the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to secure their release.
The aide noted that the victims’ husband, who lives in the United States, has expressed concern over the incident but remains confident in the ability of security agencies to rescue his wife and children.
John-Paul previously worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and First Bank Pension Custodian before retiring last year. She later relocated to Ibadan with her children while making plans to join her husband abroad.
The abduction comes amid concerns over kidnapping cases in Oyo State, including the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
