Spokesperson to the Sokoto State Governor, Malam Imam Imam, has tutored Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on how to wear a turban properly.

Mr Fayose, a Christian, stormed the Muslim prayer ground along Poly Road in Ado-Ekiti on Friday for the Eid-el-Adha prayer wearing a robe accessorised with a turban and prayer beads.

He was commended by the Chief Imam of Ekiti State, Alhaji Jamiu Bello, who said: “This dressing shows that the governor is not discriminating against any religion. Your Excellency, your dressing is even in line with Biblical injunctions.”

Pictures of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor went viral on social media given his reputation for theatrics.

Imam, a longstanding aide to Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, however, thought Fayose did not wear the turban properly.

In a Twitter post on Saturday, the former ThisDay journalist posted a picture of his boss and the Ekiti governor side by side.

“Dear Fayose, I think this is how the Turban business is done,” Imam wrote.

Speaking with reporters at the prayer ground on Friday, Fayose said, “As a leader, appearing in a Muslim regalia with a turban is to say that I must be part of everything the Muslims do and make then realise that we are all one family. I will also ensure that all their demands today are met.”

The demand of Muslims in the state, according to Bello, is that “if any Muslim is interested in the governorship election from your party, kindly support him to fulfil his ambition.”

The cleric pointed out that no Muslim has emerged governor of the state since its creation in 1996.
