President Bola Tinubu arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, early Monday to participate in the Africa Forward Summit.
According to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the president’s aircraft landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at about 12:18 a.m. local time.
President Tinubu was received by Kenya’s cabinet secretary for foreign and diaspora affairs Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya’s high commissioner to Nigeria Isaac Parashina, senior Kenyan government officials and members of Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in Kenya.
The summit will be co-hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The event will bring together heads of state, policymakers, business leaders and development partners to discuss economic growth, trade, digital innovation, infrastructure and climate issues in Africa.
Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral and multilateral meetings during the summit as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic and economic ties with other African countries.
The presidency said the president’s participation reflects Nigeria’s commitment to regional cooperation and partnerships across Africa.
Before departing Nigeria, the presidency had announced that Tinubu would attend the summit from May 11 to May 12 as part of a three-nation trip covering France, Kenya and Rwanda.
The summit, themed “Africa Forward: Africa-France Partnerships for Innovation and Growth,” is expected to focus on energy transition, industrial growth, financing reforms and climate action.
After the Kenya visit, Tinubu is scheduled to travel to Kigali, Rwanda, for the Africa CEO Forum holding on May 14 and May 15.
The president is accompanied on the trip by Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas Lawal, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole and Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani.
