Media personality Roby Ekpo has responded to a cease and desist notice issued by his estranged wife, Mayowa Lambe, who is demanding N100 million in damages over alleged defamatory statements.
Mayowa, through her legal representatives, accused Roby of making damaging claims about her during a podcast interview and asked him to stop further publication of the statements, remove related content, publish a public apology and retraction, and pay N100 million in damages.
The legal action followed Roby’s interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he spoke about the collapse of their marriage and made allegations about their relationship.
In his response through his lawyers on Thursday, Roby denied wrongdoing and said his comments were based on his personal experience.
“Our client maintains that any statement made by him, whether privately or on public platforms, were based on his personal experiences, understanding of events and matters he reasonably believes to be true,” the response stated.
His legal team also dismissed the demand for compensation.
“Your demands, particularly the request for N100,000,000.00 in damages are viewed as excessive, unfounded, and premature,” the letter said.
The lawyers added that Roby is prepared to defend himself in court if the matter proceeds.
“Our Client is prepared to join issues with your client before a court of competent jurisdiction,” the response added.
They also said Roby reserves the right to rely on Mayowa’s legal correspondence in any future legal process.
The dispute follows Roby’s podcast appearance where he spoke about issues in the marriage, including claims of infidelity and separation. Mayowa, through her lawyers, has denied his claims and insists his statements are false and damaging to her reputation.
Her legal team also stated that she has evidence to challenge his allegations.
The matter may proceed to court if both parties do not reach an out of court resolution.
