Photos: Here’s what some Almajiri do in Abuja when they are not begging

The suburbs of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja is home to a large number of out of school children popularly referred to as Almajiri who basically depend on zakat from members of the public to survive day to day.

But beyond their preoccupation with begging, the Almajiri kids also regularly take time out to engage in recreation, especially during the hours when they know that the business of soliciting for alms may be at low ebb.

Thus, at a time their mates are in their classrooms studying, some of the Almajiri can be found busy on the football field as shown in these images captured at Kuje Area Council Stadium, Abuja by Femi Ipaye.

Perhaps, an Nwankwo Kanu, Odion Ighalo or Kelechi Iheanacho may emerge from their ranks in the nearest future.
