The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has denied reports claiming that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was removed as chairman of the forum.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the forum’s director-general Folorunso Aluko described the reports as false and misleading.
Mr Aluko said no meeting was held where such a decision was taken, adding that Governor Uzodimma remains chairman of the forum.
“The report is entirely false, baseless, and without an iota of truth,” the statement said.
According to him, the PGF Secretariat had no record of any resolution removing the chairman.
“The Forum remains united, focused, and committed to its responsibilities,” he added.
He urged members of the public, party supporters and the media to disregard the report.
Reports circulating earlier on Thursday had claimed that Uzodimma was removed as chairman of the forum during an extraordinary meeting of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja.
The reports alleged that about 20 governors attended the meeting at the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge, with some joining virtually.
According to the claims, the governors reached the decision after allegations of financial mismanagement and loss of confidence in Uzodimma’s leadership of the forum.
The reports also claimed that Peter Mbah was being considered as a possible replacement.
The development was said to have come shortly after Hope Uzodimma spoke on behalf of APC governors during the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja.
However, the PGF insisted that no such decision was taken and maintained that Uzodimma still has the support of governors elected on the APC platform.
