Oyo government mourns death of female broadcaster

Oyo State Government has commiserated with the management and staff of Space FM, Ibadan on the demise of its General Manager, Bunmi Atekoja, describing her as an amiable person, whose zeal for creativity and innovations will be greatly missed.

Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Toye Arulogun, said this during a condolence visit to the radio station on Tuesday.

Arulogun, who described death as “a debt everyone owes”, extolled the virtues of the mother of two daughters, who he said lived a fulfilled life, as her impact was felt by everyone she met.

He said that her death came as a rude shock to the state government, saying that she would be remembered for her dedication to her duty and unflinching support to the government.

Arulogun condoled with the Space FM, Atekoja’s family, colleagues and friends, and prayed God grants them the fortitude to bear the loss.

Atekoja, 45, died on Monday, November 14 after leaving her Liberty Road, Ibadan.

Chairman of Space FM, Ayodeji Osibogun, told journalists the deceased had complained of being generally tired on Friday, November 11 and had to be taken to the hospital.

“She got better two days later and on Monday, she drove himself in her Pathfinder Nissan around 4 pm on the fateful day. She signed some cheques and sometime after 5pm she drove back home.

“We were told that when she got home, she called in her neighbours that she was feeling dizzy again and she was sweating profusely. Her neighbours then decided to take her to the hospital. She was driven in her car. She arrived at the hospital dead,” Osibogun said.
