Actress Rita Edochie has continued her fight for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as well as advocating for the Nigerian movie industry.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Rita called for the release of the Biafra agitator as she cautioned lawmakers for saying that Nollywood is the reason for the surge of ritual killings in the country.

She wrote: “HOW CAN THEY BE CHASING SHADOWS WHEN THEY KNOW WHO THEIR REALLY ENEMY/ ENEMIES ARE?
MAZI NNAMDI OKWU KANU IS NEVER YOUR PROBLEM. NOLLYWOOD IS NEVER YOUR PROBLEM BECAUSE RECENTLY YOU HAVE JOINED NOLLYWOOD IN IT.

“BUT YOU ARE YOUR VERY PROBLEM AND PRACTICALLY REFUSED TO TELL YOURSELF / SELVES THE TRUTH.
RELEASE MAZI NNAMDI OKWU KANU AND FACE THE PROBLEM YOU CREATED BY YOURSELF/ SELVES FOR YOURSELF/ SELVES.”

Another actor Yul Edochie also countered the claim saying that ritual killings has been happening ng in Nigeria before Nollywood emerged.

He said: “When I was a kid in the eighties I started hearing about ritual killings in Nigeria. There was no Nollywood. Hunger and poverty make people do crimes. No be Nollywood cause am. Nollywood only shows what happens in the spcietyu. Fix the country and crime will go away. Don’t blame Nollywood.”
