Olufemi Adebayo

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Sunday paid tribute to the late Nigeria international Olufemi Adebayo who died in 2011 in a tragic car accident in Greece.

The former Skoda Xanthi defender was reported to be driving from Xanthi to Salonika in the Kavala region of northern Greece when he lost control of his car while on his way to finalise details of his wedding.

The NFF said in a tweet that the late centre-back who made five appearances for the Super Eagles would forever be remembered.

“Till memory fades & life departs, you live forever in our hearts. Rest on Soldier, rest on Olufemi Adebayo (August 13, 1985- April 18, 2011),” the tweet reads.

Adebayo was part of Nigeria’s squad that won silver in the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Netherlands and 2008 Olympics Games in Beijing, with ten games and two goals in both tournaments.
