A chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known MC Oluomo, was reportedly stabbed on Tuesday when the campaign flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos turned violent.

The flag-off was held at the Sky Power Ground, Oba Akinjobi Road, Ikeja.

Akinsanya was allegedly stabbed by members of a faction of the NURTW and rushed to Eko Hospital by national chairman of the union, Tajudeen Agbede, and others.

It was gathered that the first gunshot was heard when Governor Akinwunmi Ambode was addressing the crowd.

Mr Ambode was said to have told the crowd that the police were in control of the situation, but things got worse as series of gunshots were heard.

All was reportedly well until another gunshot was heard at the podium where Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, was performing and thrilling the audience.

Sources said there was a skirmish between supporters of MC Oluomo and other transport unions, as series of gunshots rent the air, causing pandemonium at the Sky Power Ground.

The campaign was cut shot, as the Lagos APC governorship candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, could not address the crowd to his satisfaction.

Mr Sanwo-Olu was reported to have rushed the vote of thanks and dispersed the meeting.

Police officers were said to have engaged the hoodlums in gun battle as people ran helter and skelter for their lives.

In the milieu that occurred, several people were stabbed and injured.

Pressmen covering the event were seen fleeing the scene to avoid being caught in the bloody clash.

Among those who reportedly sustained gunshot injuries during the clash were the group political editor of The Nation, Emmanuel Oladesu; a correspondent with New Telegraph, Temitope Ogunbanke; and a cameraman with Ibile Television, Abiodun Yusuf.

Officers of the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) were said to have conveyed several people who were stabbed to the hospital.
