#JusticeforBarakat: 18-year-old Ibadan girl ‘raped, murdered’

A girl identified as Barakat Bello has been reported gang-raped and murdered by unknown men in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

The 18-year-old was said to have been attacked on Tuesday in Akinyele area of Ibadan.

Police in Oyo have not confirmed the incident.

The deceased is believed to be a 100-level student of Federal College of Animal Health and Production in Ibadan.

“I was not at home when the incident happened. The younger sister was not at home too, she went for Qur’anic lessons but when she returned home, she saw her at the back of the house with deep cuts all over her body. She had been raped and killed,” her father, Kasimu Elepo, was said to have told Sahara Reporters.

“Somebody called me on the telephone that I should come home but he refused to tell me what happened. When I got home, I saw that my daughter had been raped and stabbed to death.”

Bello has reportedly been buried according to Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Southwest, Zone D has demanded justice for her alleged death.

The reported incident comes as the latest of rape issues which have become central in discourse among Nigerians in recent times.
