Singer Joeboy has spoken about a decision he made early in his career that he says changed his life in the music industry.
During an interview, he recalled being given two options by Mr Eazi, either to take $5,000 immediately or to record a music project with full financial support for production and promotion.
According to him, the offer came at a time when he was going through financial difficulty and had less than $50 in his account.
“Mr Eazi asked me if I wanted 5k$ on the spot or a chance to make a musical record & he will pay for everything & at the time I had less than 50$ in my account, it was the toughest decision I’ve made in my life,” he said.
Joeboy said he eventually chose the music project, a decision that became a turning point in his journey as an artist.
He was discovered by Mr Eazi in 2017 after posting a cover of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ online. The cover drew attention and led to his introduction into the emPawa Africa talent initiative, which supports emerging African artists.
His breakthrough came in 2019 with the release of his hit single ‘Baby,’ which brought him widespread attention and helped establish him in the mainstream Afrobeats scene. The song became one of the standout records of that year and opened the door for greater recognition.
Since then, Joeboy has released several popular songs and continued to build a steady career in Afrobeats.
