Promise Dikko, winner of the 2024 Miss UNIJOS pageant, has spoken about the death of her fiancé, whom she said was killed by bandits months before their planned wedding.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the University of Jos student shared a photograph of herself and her late fiancé, who was dressed in ceremonial military attire.
Describing him as her hero, Promise said she had saved the photograph for a special moment closer to their wedding date, which had been fixed for December 27.
“Rip my hero. I kept this photo to post it when it close to wedding date,” she wrote.
“27th December was supposed to be the date. We have made prep and bookings. But you left me?
“Bandit killed you for me. Nigeria happened to me. Rest easy my hero.”
Promise did not disclose when the incident occurred or provide details of the attack. However, she said preparations and bookings had already been made for their wedding before his death.
Her post attracted messages of condolence from friends and followers, with many expressing concern over the security situation in the country.
The loss comes as banditry and kidnapping continue to affect communities across parts of Nigeria. Security agencies have intensified operations against armed groups responsible for attacks, abductions and killings in several states.
On Wednesday, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command announced the rescue of five kidnapped residents from the Paze community in Abuja following a gun battle with suspected kidnappers. Two suspects were killed and two others arrested during the operation.
Authorities said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang who escaped.
Bandit attacks remain one of Nigeria’s major security challenges, particularly in parts of the North West and North Central regions, where thousands of people have been killed or displaced in recent years.
