Filmmaker Kenneth Gyang resigns from Nigeria Oscar selection committee

Filmmaker Kenneth Gyang has resigned from the Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) for the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences.

The Oloture director announced his resignation from the committee in a Twitter post on Friday after the NOSC retained its decision not to submit a film for the 2023 Oscars after reconvening to make a final determination regarding a submission to the International Feature Film category for the 95th Academy Awards, following a one-week extension by the Academy.

“NOSC? I’m out. It was quite the ride. Damn,” the filmmaker tweeted.

NOSC became divided after it announced in September that it would not submit a film for the International Feature Film category for the 95th Academy Awards.

Qed.ng learnt Gyang voted for Biyi Bandele’s Elesin Oba in the first round of voting done in September.
