Fayose imposes curfew as two die in Ekiti clash

Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose

Following the killing of two persons in a clash in Igbara-odo community of Ekiti State on Friday, Governor Ayodele Fayose has imposed a seven-day 7am to 6pm curfew on the community.

Reacting to the killing during his visit to the community, Fayose said, “This is a very bad development. It is a big shame on the community. I am assuring you that we will get to the root of this matter and ensure that perpetrators are dealt with.”

The clash was allegedly caused by individuals suspected to be members of Federation of Igbara-odo Students Union.

Reports said the ruckus began when the said students distributed some pamphlets in the town calling for the probe of monarch, Oba Edward Jaiyeola, on the accountability of the money spent in the last anniversary celebration of the town.

The youth also demanded for the inclusion of four of their members in the king’s council of chiefs, for the retaining of a new generation bank which was about to vacate the town and for a police college which was speculated would be built in the town.

It was learnt that the youths, after distributing the pamphlets, made for the palace of the monarch and unleashed terror on it.

“They vandalised all vehicles in sight there, the palace building and in the process, attacked the divisional police officer of the town,” a witness said.

An unidentified leader of the students and a policeman were reportedly killed in the clash.
