Rapper and actor, Falz, has shared the reason why he made the trending ‘This is Nigeria’ video.

The 27-year-old took to Instagram on Tuesday, saying that many Nigerians are distracted by entertainment and forget the issues plaguing the country.

He said: “I made this video because I feel like it is very important we raise a heightened level of social consciousness and political awareness, I believe everyone is distracted by entertainment and we forget that we are going through so many struggles as a people.”

The video, which was released last Friday ahead of Nigeria’s Democracy Day, has generated mixed reactions due to the sensitive issues it addresses.

American hip-hop superstar, Sean Combs, popularly known as P Diddy, hailed Falz born Folarin Falana, for the video.

Acknowledging the rapper and comic-actor, he wrote on Instagram on Sunday, “#Nigeria LETS GO!”

The song mirrors the concept used by American musician and filmmaker, Childish Gambino, in his hit ‘This is America.’
