El-Rufai’s son Bashir apologises over public announcement of divorce from wife

Bashir El-Rufai

Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a public apology after facing backlash over comments he made about the end of his marriage to former wife Halima Kazaure.

Bashir made the apology in a post shared on X on Saturday, saying he regretted handling the matter publicly.

“I made a mistake a few weeks ago and I would like to apologize. Personal matters should be kept private,” he wrote.

He added that he had also apologised to Halima over the incident.

Bashir had earlier confirmed on X that his marriage to Halima had ended after responding to users who questioned his public admiration for another woman on the platform.

At the time, he said he was divorced and stated that he had no time for what he described as “Gen Z wahala.”

He also compared his former marriage with his current relationship, saying he had discovered differences in how women from different backgrounds relate with their husbands.

In another post, Bashir said he had never asked any woman out or proposed marriage, adding that Halima was the one who proposed to him during their relationship.

Bashir and Halima, daughter of former minister of labour and productivity Ibrahim Kazaure, got married in November 2020.

The couple welcomed a set of twins in 2021.

His earlier comments about the divorce sparked reactions on social media, with many users criticising his decision to discuss details of his marriage publicly.
