Ekweremadu’s son shouldn’t have staged elaborate wedding with parents imprisoned — Joe Igbokwe

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Joe Igbokwe has knocked Lloyd Ekweremadu, first son of the former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, for staging what he described as an elaborate wedding.

Lloyd, also known as Ike Ekweremadu Jnr, and Tiffany exchanged marital vows on Saturday at the Basilica of Grace Anglican Church, Gudu, Abuja.

Ekweremadu and wife Beatrice were not at the wedding ceremony as they are serving jail terms in the United Kingdom. They were jailed in May for conspiring to traffic a market trader to the UK to harvest his kidney.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Igbokwe said if he were Ekweremadu’s son he would have gone for a low-key wedding considering his parents are in prison.

“If I were to be Ekweremadu’s son I would not have staged this elaborate wedding ceremony with my father and mother in prison. I would have done a low key marriage ceremony and wait till my parents are free. This generation scares me stiff,” he wrote.

Lloyd is serving as a commissioner in the cabinet of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State. His wife’s parents are Mr and Mrs Obinna Uzor from Ebonyi.

Dignitaries present at the wedding were Peter Obi, former Senate Presidents Anyim Pius, Bukola Saraki and David Mark; Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, PDP governorship candidate in Kogi, Dino Melaye; Senators Dave Umahi, Obinna Ogba, Rafiu Ibrahim, Isa Misau, Philips Aduda, Uche Ekwunife, and Bidoun Olujimi among others.
