Seven aspirants demand suspension of Ekiti APC governorship primary

Kayode Fayemi

Seven out of eight aspirants have called for the suspension of the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti.

The primary election is expected to begin on Thursday.

The aspirants calling for postponement include Senators Opeyemi Bamidele, Dayo Adeyeye, Femi Bamisile, Bamidele Faparusi, Kayode Ojo, Olusola Afolabi, Demola Popoola and Kayode Ojo.

Protesting with their supporters on Thursday morning at the party’s secretariat in Ado-Ekiti, the aspirants accused state government officials of hijacking the process to favour Governor Kayode Fayemi’s preferred aspirant, Biodun Oyebanji.

The seven aspirants also alleged that the local government electoral committees are loyalists of Mr Fayemi.

According to them, the governorship primary panel led by Jigawa State Governor Abubakar Badaru has been compromised.
