The lawmaker representing Efon Constituency in the Ekiti House of Assembly, Afolabi Akanni, was Tuesday released by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Akanni was arrested on March 4.

His regained freedom 18 days after.

Vanguard reports that the stricken politician has been admitted at a private hospital in Abuja.

A very weak Akanni was quoted as saying “I am not well. I am sick. I am sick.”

He was said he was treated for malaria at the DSS detention facility after he collapsed twice.

Akanni He said his release may not be unconnected with his deteriorating health, adding that he was not told why he was held.

The Ekiti State Government Thursday last week raised an alarm that Akanni had died in custody.

That prompted the secret police to organise a parley where he was paraded before journalists.

DSS spokesperson Tony Opuiyo told journalists Akanni “was duly invited by the service over some serious breaches bordering on State security and for which he has some explanations to make. These breaches fall under the purview of the DSS to investigate.”

Opuiyo said the press conference became “necessary in order to debunk a rumour which is being dangerously spread in Ekiti State by some mischief makers to the effect that Hon. Afolabi has died in custody.”
