NAFRC director Ogbole James killed in Lagos

Corporal Abayomi Edun has been detained by the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) provost marshals after allegedly crushing a general to death.

Reports said Edun ran into the director of finance and accounts of NAFRC Brigadier-General Ogbole James in the Oshodi, Lagos barracks on Tuesday night.

James was reportedly walking to his residence at the NAFRC Old Barracks when the incident occurred.

He was confirmed dead at the NAFRC Medical Centre.

Edun, who was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident, is also said to reside in the barracks.

The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has expressed sorrow over the senior officer’s death.

A statement issued on Wednesday by AANI spokesman, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka (rtd), said the association’s national president, former inspector general of police Mohammed Abubakar, “was deeply shocked and saddened by the heart-wrenching news.”

The statement described the deceased as “one of the association’s illustrious and promising members.”

The deceased was a fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) and held memberships of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Nigerian Institute of Directors (MIoD), Chartered Institute of Taxation (ACTI), and the National Institute (mni).

He had first and second degrees in accounting and finance. James is survived by an ageing mother, a wife and three children.
