Death toll in Kajuru killings now 130 — El-Rufai

Kaduna state governor nasir el-rufai

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that the death toll in the recent attacks in Kaduna State has risen to 130.

El-Rufai disclosed this on Tuesday after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and some other northern governors and security chiefs.

Mr Buhari had convened the meeting to address recent insecurity issues in Kaduna, Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States.

El-Rufai had announced on the eve of the botched presidential and national assembly elections that 66 persons were killed in Kajuru, Kaduna.

However, speaking with journalists on Tuesday, he said, “the latest report shows that over 130 were killed, not even 66”.

He added that relatives of the victims have provided his government with the names of those killed, adding that their names would be released soon to the media.

Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Ahmad Abdulrahman, who also attended the briefing, said eight persons were earlier arrested.

“We intended prosecuting those arrested today but as we speak three more are arrested. We want to do the needful before taking them to court,” Mr Abdulrahman said.
