Senator representing Ogun East Gbenga Daniel (APC) on Monday said he was denied access to a caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
A video shared on X showed the moment the senator’s convoy was stopped outside Adeola Odutola Hall, the venue of the meeting.
Addressing supporters from a bus outside the venue, Mr Daniel said any decision taken at the meeting would not stand.
“We are here for our Ogun East APC caucus meeting, but we have been barred. We are told that we can’t enter. Whatever they do here today is null and void,” he said.
He said the meeting was scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and that he arrived after the time.
The development follows tension between Daniel and Governor Dapo Abiodun, who are both political figures in the district.
In August 2025, the Ogun State chapter of the APC suspended Daniel over alleged anti-party activities.
He was accused of asking supporters to vote for Bolarinwa Oluwole of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a by-election held in the state.
The election was conducted to fill the seat left by the death of Adewunmi Onanuga.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adesola Elegbeji of the APC as the winner of the poll.
Responding to the incident, an aide to the governor Niyi Adeleye, said Daniel was not prevented from attending the meeting.
According to him, the senator was asked to enter the venue without his vehicle and supporters.
“We didn’t prevent him. The venue is restricted because of security. People were asked to park outside,” he said.
He added that Daniel insisted on entering with a bus carrying people who were not invited and declined to comply with the instructions.
Gbenga Daniel, a former governor of Ogun State, was elected to the Senate in 2023 and is seeking another term.
Governor Abiodun is also seeking the APC ticket for the Ogun East senatorial district.
