A Sharia Court II, sitting at Magajin Gari Kaduna, on Monday ordered the remand of a bride, Maimuna Sani accused of assaulting and defaming the character of her brother in-law’s wife, Hussaina Ahmad.

Maimuna had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge when her plea was taken.

The judge, Mallam Musa Saad, however, said the accused would remain in custody pending bail by a guarantor.

He adjourned the case till June 12 for the complainant to present witnesses.

Earlier, counsel to the complainant, Aliyu Mukhtar, told the court that the defendant assaulted his client when she visited her co-wife’s home.

“My client, with the permission of her husband, went to see her co-wife, who was ill when Maimuna requested to see her in private.

“When she went out to see the defendant she was punched on her back and was challenged to a fight;  she also called my client a prostitute,” he told the court.
