TikTok content creator Monica Owuunaka, popularly known as Monique Pearls, has died at the age of 30.
Her death was confirmed by her family in a statement shared on her official Instagram page on Thursday.
The statement read: “From the Family of Monica Oma Owunaka It is with deep pain and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister, and friend, Monica Oma Owunaka. Monica was a beautiful soul whose love, kindness, strength, and presence touched so many lives.
“She brought warmth, joy, and light to everyone around her, and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Words cannot fully express the depth of this loss or the pain of saying goodbye so suddenly.
“Though her time with us was far too short, the love she shared and the impact she made will never be forgotten. During this difficult time, we kindly ask for prayers, love, and strength for the family and everyone mourning this heartbreaking loss. Further details regarding burial arrangements will be communicated in due course. Gone too soon. 🕊️🕊️”
Monique was based in Abuja and hailed from Cross River State. She became popular on TikTok for videos centred on motherhood, caregiving and family life.
Many of her videos featured a young girl identified as Precious, whom the family reportedly brought from their village. Their relationship became one of the recurring themes in her content and attracted reactions from followers who regularly engaged with her family related posts.
She built a large following by sharing personal experiences around parenting, domestic life and relationships within Nigerian homes. Her emotional storytelling style also helped her gain visibility across TikTok and Instagram.
Following news of her death, tributes poured in on social media from followers and fellow creators who described her as caring and relatable.
As of the time of this report, the cause of death has not been made public by her family.
Burial arrangements are also yet to be announced.
